Shimen Ancient Town

Shimen Village, Xikou Town, Fenghua District, Ningbo, Zhejiang,. Over 800 years old.

Described on Trip.com (https://sg.trip.com/moments/detail/ningbo-83-127155540/) as "Hidden in Shimen Village, Xikou Town, Fenghua District, Ningbo, Zhejiang, is like an old man sleeping in a bamboo forest, waiting for your visit."

Surrounded by bamboo forests, Shimen lies at the foot of Daleshan Mountain. It consists of old traditional wooden and stone buildings, few modern dwellings. Typical of eastern Zhejiang, dwellings typically contain blue bricks and black tiles, with high horsehead walls. Ancient bridges crisscross the central stream, with the Tiyun Bridge (Five-Hole Bridge) being an excellent example of the Qing dynasty pattern stone arch bridge. There are many buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The ancient camphor trees are lush and green, and the surrounding bamboo and ancient trees complement each other perfectly.

Village Stream

The stream is literally the centre of the village, the streets are arranged either side of the stream and extend along its length; the stream is still fished for food, and laundry is still washed in the stream. The stream is crystal clear and is obviously unpolluted as there are plenty of fish and abundant plant life.

Street Scenes

Streets arranged around the stream, the spine of the village. A mixture of very old wooden buildings, 'brutal' architecture concrete and more modern and aesthetically attractive dwellings.
